Jam Jar Sessions
This autumn’s series is produced in collaboration between Sibelius Academy’s Global Music Programme and Interkult, with additional funding from the Sibelius Academy Foundation.
Our second event of the autumn features solo and collaborative performances from:
NEMAT BATTAH (oud, voice)
CONSTANZA GARCÍA (flutes)
GENEVIÈVE ANDRÆSSEN (nyckelharpa, voice, guitar)
ANNA MURTOLA (voice).
The Jam Jar Sessions, co-created with students of Global Music’s Professional Pathways course, aims to shake up the typical concert format, with collaborations and solo performances between participating musicians picked from a jam jar at random by the audience. The series showcases some of the incredible diversity of talent among Sibelius Academy’s Global Music community, while also helping to forge new connections, experience, and professional opportunities between Global Music students and the wider creative community.
Interkult is a cultural hub whose mission is to promote interculturalism and equality through art and culture. During this year’s series, each event will feature one established artist from outside Sibelius Academy’s Global Music community, selected by Interkult.

YSBRYDION
Juniper & The Wolf (aka Geneviève Andræssen) is a duo of one; a singer-songwriter and traditional folk musician, weaving together her own unique brand of epic poetry, storytelling, original music, and folk songs from around the world. Encompassing a multitude of languages and eras, Geneviève spins a delicate web of counterpoints, entwining haunting vocals, liltingly playful guitar riffs, and the melancholy sounds of the nyckelharpa. Whether performing solo or collaborating with any number of the phenomenal, folk musicians encountered on the road, her shows continuously sway between spellbound silences and raucously singing crowds.
Pihla Perämäki
Joka kevät on ainoa kevät (Every Spring is the Only Spring) is a solo performance for voice and fiddle. Pihla Perämäki improvises and sings her own compositions, which are postcard-like moments where city and nature meet.
Pihla Perämäki is a Helsinki-based violinist, singer, and improviser. She plays and sings in various bands, including Kotve improvisation collective and a singer-fiddler duo Kuus & Hukkala. Her background is in Finnish folk music, and her music also has elements from experimental music, ambient, and free improvisation.
